Spring Work Days

Update 05.08.21:
The Alumni Workday Rain Date will not take place.

Happy Mothers’ Day, everyone.

Spring is upon us!  Thank you to everyone who’s already offered to come up and give us a hand getting Camp Onas ready for the summer!

This year, there has been so much interest (and we have so much to do), we’ve scheduled three Spring Workdays. The dates are listed below. In light of COVID-19, we are limiting the workdays to 30 people, and asking people to sign up.

We’ve specified the three workdays as staff, family, and alumni, but anyone who would like to volunteer is welcome to join for any of the workdays, though we ask that children under 16 attend the Family Work Day with a parent/guardian supervisor.

Spring 2021 Work Days
April 24th: Staff Work Day: (Rain date: Sunday April 25th), 9am-4pm
May 1st: Family Work Day: (Rain date: Sunday, May 2nd), 9am-1:30pm
May 8th: Alumni Work Day: (Rain date: Sunday May 9th), 9am-4pm

For those of you new to our work days: Each year we get together in the early spring to knock out the tasks that are too much for one or two people to do. We clean the kitchen and shower houses, clear debris in the paths, cut down trees, move and split firewood, clean out the garden, pick up trash on Geigel Hill Rd. for Adopt-a-Highway, etc.

If this interests you and you can make it, please join us! Plan to wear outdoor clothes you won’t mind getting muddy, sturdy shoes, and work gloves and ear protection if you have it. And always, bring a water bottle, and wear bug spray and sunscreen.

We will be taking precautions similar to those we will use this summer to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 transmission:

  • We will rely primarily on 2-of-3 protocol
  • Please be prepared to speak up, offer (and receive) friendly reminders about practicing 2-of-3 while you are here.
  • 2-of-3 will be practiced by everyone, regardless of vaccination status.
  • We will be limiting the group size to 30 at each workday; so if you sign up and can’t make it, please let us know so we can invite someone else.
  • Testing and self-quarantine will not be expected or required
  • Lunch will be provided

There will be limited indoor and less active work available for those who prefer it (helping set up and clean up lunch, light cleaning, and perhaps some envelope stuffing).
