Summer Camps are great for kids. We’ve always known this, but there is a growing body of research that is proving what we’ve always known … well-designed summer camp experiences promote independence, confidence, feelings of personal responsibility and agency, social intelligence, problem solving, positive feelings of personal identity, and more. (Read more about this research on the American Camp Association website).
Camp Onas is a particularly effective at delivering the benefits of overnight camping because of our longstanding traditions that honor individual freedom, community, integrity, and independence. Since 1922, our program has focused on offering a simple program that is people-centered rather than equipment or “stuff” centered. This leaves a lot of space to practice creativity, problem solving, and cooperation … which are essential life skills that promote feelings of confidence, resilience, and an overall sense of wellbeing.
We are careful and thoughtful stewards of our financial resources. Camp Onas makes every effort to provide a quality camp experience at a fraction of the cost of other camps. We are committed to keeping our camp program accessible to families and we provide tuition assistance to families who couldn’t otherwise afford camp. We do this by carefully monitoring our expenses, engaging in long-range financial planning, and enlisting the help of donors and foundations. As an organization, we place a premium on value, quality, and long-term organizational stability.
Our Quaker values guide us in an ever-changing world. As the saying goes: “If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.” Camp Onas holds our Quaker values and roots closely. The values of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship are not only our foundation, they are our guideposts. Even as an organization with longstanding and deeply loved traditions, the Camp Onas community is comfortable with self-examination and making changes that help us better enact our values. This allows us to stay true to our history, while confidently evolving without going off-course.
Your contributions are essential to our continued success. Camp’s future and its ability to do all that we do for another 100 years depends on the support of our donors and extended community. Tuition and rental fees cover a portion of our expenses but they do not cover the full cost of operating Camp Onas. Contributions help us to fund special projects, provide camper aid (tuition assistance), make essential improvements, and plan for camp’s future financial stability. If you would like to know more about how your contributions support Camp Onas, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Holly or Matt will be happy to answer your questions. Our office number is 610-847-5858 and we both read and respond to emails sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. (Read more about our funds and how your donation can help).
